Case Study: Nadia’s Session
Nadia is a migrant support worker who is organising a short group session on stress and well-being for recently arrived women in a community centre. The group is diverse: different cultural backgrounds; different language levels; some participants have experienced difficult journeys.
During the session:
Nadia starts with a short explanation of stress. She asks participants to share their experiences. One participant becomes emotional and stops speaking. Others remain silent and avoid eye contact. Nadia feels unsure how to continue.
Read the case study and reflect:
• What challenges can you identify in this situation?
• What could Nadia do differently to create a safer learning environment?
• Which teaching methods from this module could help?
• How should Nadia respond to the emotional reaction?
• What should she avoid doing?
Key Learning from the Case Study
✔ Not all learners are ready to share.
✔ Teaching sensitive topics requires flexibility.
✔ Emotional reactions are normal.
✔ The educator must adapt methods to the group.
✔ Safe learning is more important than completing the plan.
