Learning Objectives
Through module 5 you will be able to:
• Reinforce principles of facilitation for sensitive topics.
• Explore group dynamics and emotional impact in diverse contexts.
• Practice facilitation through interactive scenarios.
• Reflect and share strategies with peers.
Learning Outcomes
After attending this training module, you will be able to:
Outcomes
• Describe core facilitation principles (e.g., neutrality, psychological safety, structure).
• Articulate the ethical responsibilities of a facilitator (e.g., confidentiality, impartiality).
• Identify common group development stages and typical group dynamics (e.g., power struggles, projection, trust).
Competences
• Maintain facilitator neutrality while creating structure to guide sensitive discussions.
• Manage and mediate group conflict, recognising when tension can contribute to learning.
• Support group self-awareness: help participants synthesise experiences, identify themes and draw collective meaning.
Skills
• Use active listening (paraphrasing, summarising) and open questioning to promote participation.
• Intervene appropriately in group dynamics: use time-outs, reframe or redirect when conversation becomes difficult.
• Facilitate debriefs using structured reflective questions (“What happened?”, “So what?”, “Now what?”).
