PHAROS – Mental Health Support for Migrants and Refugees
Empowering migrants and refugees through peer-led mental health support and self-care strategies.

Strengthening Minds, Building Communities
Equipping migrants and refugees with the skills and support to navigate mental health and resilience.

WHAT IS PHAROS?
PHAROS is an Erasmus+ KA220 project that aims to train migrants and refugees as Lay Mental Health Advisors, equipping them with the skills to support their peers through mental health awareness, self-care techniques, and access to services.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?
Many migrants and refugees experience trauma, stress and anxiety as they navigate new environments. However, mental health support is often inaccessible due to language, cultural, and systemic barriers. PHAROS provides a peer-driven approach to help overcome these challenges.

WHO IS INVOLVED?
A diverse partnership of six European organizations, each bringing expertise in adult education, mental health, migrant support, and digital learning, is working collaboratively to implement this project
IMPACT
PHAROS project will create a sustainable impact on migrants, refugees, educators, and support workers across Europe. By providing training, peer-led support networks, and awareness campaigns, PHAROS aims to enhance mental well-being and reduce barriers to accessing mental health services.

Pharos approach
PHAROS is structured into three key stages, each designed to build knowledge, resilience, and community connections:
01
Lay Mental Health Advisor Curriculum for Migrant Learners
We train 60 migrants to become Lay Mental Health Advisors. The 30-hour training covers mental health awareness, self-care, trauma-informed care, and access to services.
02
Up-skilling Programme for Migrant Support Workers & Adult Educators
We provide specialized training for 60 educators and support workers. The 24-hour programme covers trauma-sensitive approaches, cultural competence, and facilitation skills for mental health education.
03
Peer-to-Peer Support Networks & Guidebook
We establish six peer support networks where trained Lay Mental Health Advisors help newly arrived migrants navigate mental health challenges. These networks offer a safe space for discussion, emotional support, and connection to services.
